Mars has a mass of 6.42 × 10$^{23}$ kg and a radius of 3.39 × 10$^6$ m.

(a) Calculate the gravitational field strength at the surface of Mars. [2]

(b) Calculate the gravitational potential at the surface of Mars. [1]

A geostationary satellite orbits the Earth. The mass of the Earth is 5.97 × 10$^{24}$ kg.

(a) Show that the radius of a geostationary orbit is about 4.2 × 10$^7$ m. [3]

(b) State two features of a geostationary orbit, other than its radius. [2]

A satellite of mass 500 kg is moved from the Earth's surface (radius 6.37 × 10$^6$ m) into a circular orbit of radius 7.00 × 10$^6$ m. The mass of the Earth is 5.97 × 10$^{24}$ kg.

(a) Calculate the increase in gravitational potential energy of the satellite. [2]

(b) Calculate the orbital speed of the satellite. [2]
